Answers

How do we begin selecting a wedding cake?
Contact us by phone or e-mail, and we will give you as much information as you need to make an informed decision. From there we can set up a complimentary wedding cake consultation and tasting appointment. If you believe we are a good match, we will take it from there.

When should we reserve the date for our wedding cake?
It is never too early to plan for your wedding cake. As with anything, reserving early will allow for more flexibility, and will make sure that the date of your wedding is not overbooked. Many brides reserve a year or more in advance. We also accept reservations closer to the wedding date if we have time available. A deposit of $100 will reserve our time for your wedding date. The balance is expected two weeks before the wedding--this gives ample time to know how many guests will be attending the event.

Can we serve the wedding cake as dessert?
Yes, many couples decide to serve the wedding cake as a dessert. This can be more economical than having other desserts available as well. One thing to keep in mind is to not under-estimate the number of guests as this can leave some guests without their fill of dessert.

How big is a serving of your wedding cake?
Each reception site will cut the cake slightly differently. However, the standard dimensions for a wedding cake serving is 4"H x 2"D x 1"W. Our cakes are sized slightly bigger, and will still feed as many guests necessary if the reception site cuts them slightly larger.

How do we cut the cake?
The cake cutting is a ceremonial event which usually takes place after dinner while guests are still seated. The bride holds the knife while the groom places his hand over hers. Together, they make the first two cuts and remove the small slice. The groom feeds the bride the first bite. She feeds him the second.

Can we have two or more different flavors of cake within the wedding cake?"
Yes, couples often choose to have two or more flavors, as it offers a choice for their guests. You can mix and match not only the flavors of the cake, but the fillings as well.

Can we save the top tier for our First Anniversary?
Yes, if you would so choose. We even offer a a complimentary fresh Anniversary Cake separately if you prefer. If you do choose to save the top tier of your cake, we will give you a box and directions for saving it in the freezer.

Will you work with my florist?
Absolutely. We will get in touch with your florist the week of the wedding. We will assist in coordinating the time of delivery with the florist, setup time, and the placement of the fresh flowers.

What time do you deliver the cake?
The reception site will often dictate this, sometimes alotting a short window in which deliveries can be made. We will contact the reception site the week of the wedding coordinate the delivery. Depending on the delivery window and our schedule, the cake could be delivered several hours before the event.

Do you deliver?
Absolutely. We are centrally located on Long Island, and deliver anywhere within the New York Metropolitan Area, including Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island. We also deliver to New Jersey and Connecticut. Depending on the distance, there may be a nominal charge for delivery.

Will I have to return any cake stands, pillars or plates after the reception?
Depending on what was ordered, you may have to return some ornamental stands. It will be discussed beforehand if anything will need to be returned, and if a rental charge will apply.

I saw this great cake--can I bring in a picture of it?
Sure! We can recreate any cake you may have in mind. You can even bring in an example of the wedding gown, table linen or anything else and we can incorporate it into the design of the cake.

Can I save money by having "fake" tiers?
The answer, as usual, is that it depends. Since the bulk of the work in a wedding cake is in the decoration, elaborate designs will usually not result in much savings. A cake dummy used in a simpler design though should bring the price down for the same sized wedding cake. For a further discussion on cake dummies, follow the link.
